IDRC Expands Staff to Improve Relationship With Puerto Rico's Top Racers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE *** 04-27-01

Axel Fuentes Gonzales Named as IDRC's Ambassador to Puerto Rico

If you think that import and compact car drag racing is most popular here in the mainland of the United States, think again. Import drag racing is THE official motorsport of the island of Puerto Rico. Crowds of over 20,000 regularly attend import drag races on a weekly basis. With this type of enthusiasm, it's no wonder that the majority of the World's quickest imports and sport compacts come from this tiny island in the Caribbean.

The IDRC prides itself in being an organization that is "By the Racers, For the Racers." In the IDRC's doctrine, "The Racers" include all of the drag racing competitors running imports and sport compacts throughout the world. In one corner of the world know as Puerto Rico, language and geographical barriers had previously made communication with Puerto Rico's top racers and racecar builders difficult. Now, the IDRC's latest addition to its staff will provide a direct line of communication to the commonwealth of 3.7 million people.

According to the IDRC's National Director Michael Ferrara, "With Axel on board it's our hope that we can significantly increase the profile of Puerto Rico's top racers here in the mainland. These racers deserve sponsor support for their accomplishments, dedication and professionalism. We, as an organization for the racers, need to do everything in our power to help these racers secure sponsor dollars. A number of corporate companies have recently expressed interest in reaching the Latino communities and we can think of no better way than through the support of these racers in the IDRC program."

Axel A. Fuentes Gonzalez is a 28-year old resident of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Working as an insurance claim representative puts food on the table, but import and sport compact drag racing is what keeps his heart pumping. A performance enthusiast long before he could drive, Axel is now literally married to the sport as his father-in-law Jorge Arce owns the Techno Precision Tools Machine Shop which is responsible for the machine work on some of Puerto Rico's top cars like Sakura and Ivan Racing. Axel is the IDRC's newest staff addition and will now be the IDRC's exclusive representative to Puerto Rico.

Attached is the updated 2001 schedule featuring the bonus Southern California event for July 28th and 29th and the 2-day expanded Texas race for November 11th & 12th in San Antonio. For more information, contact IDRC at:
