Is it the lure of earning double points in the lucrative IDRC $128,500 championship race? Or is it just the opportunity to be the first IDRC racers to tear up South Florida’s top drag strip? Whatever the reason, the IDRC Hurricane Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida is attracting the top racers in the world. Now, it is time to get ready for the best import and sport compact event to ever hit the Sunshine State.

Are you longing to see the World’s Quickest and Fastest Imports in quarter-mile competition? Then mark you calendars for August 11th and 12th for the IDRC Hurricane Nationals. The Hoyos Racing Ford Focus piloted by Matt Hartford will be cranking up the boost and crashing the gears looking to extend its lead in the IDRC Championship Points race. The current IDRC-title holder for the elapsed time (7.41-seconds) and top mph (187 mph) records will be tearing up the track while looking for the World elapsed time record by shutting down the competition. Will he be able to extend his lead or will Efren Vasquez and his Toyo Tires R-100 improve his competition record to four wins in four appearances?

If the “no-budget, no limits” Toyo Tires Pro cars are too much and you relate better to the Nitto Tire/Turbo Magazine Quick class racers, then you are in for a treat. The Top Five IDRC Quick Class point’s leaders are all scheduled to attend. Brent Rau and his 9-second Eclipse will try to stay ahead of Mike Crawford’s ultra-consistent, 9-second automatic Neon and the hard charging Honda of Gary Gardella. James Farrer will be opting for Nissan power in the challenge while last year’s championship runner-up Leevon Eisele is ready to shut down the East Coast contingent. With four different manufacturers and four different states represented by the Top Five points leaders, you can be sure the rivalries will continue to heat up.

For the all-natural crowd that prefers to make power without power additives, the APC All-Motor Class will be the one to watch. Bisi Ezerioha will attempt to reclaim his point’s lead in the championship while Fred Ellis has other ideas. Fred is coming off a victory at Englishtown and the “double championship aspect” of this very special event opens the door for just about anyone to make a serious move in this class.

As always this IDRC event will also feature the Ford Racing Performance Parts brackets open to all imports and sport compacts. Whether you are a first-timer or a professional, there’s an IDRC class for you. With over $1,000,000 in available contingency and nearly $15,000 in cash payouts on the spot, you can’t afford not to be racing at this event. If you are driving a Ford-badged sport compact in the brackets and you win or are a runner up, you’ll also receive an extra $1000 on the spot for winning or $500 for runner-up.

For those that like to show instead of go, Moroso Motorsports Park will also have its world famous show-n-shine competition that attracts the best looking imports and sport compacts from the entire Sunshine State. Add to this the always-popular bikini contest and the motorcycle stunt show and you’ve got a great way to spend your weekend.

On Saturday night, the gates will open for a test and tune session that will allow first timers to gain some experience while the professional racers will have time to dial in their cars for the track conditions. On Sunday morning, the competition will heat up as two qualifying session for the heads-up classes will be followed by elimination rounds for all classes.
