IDRC & Firebird Turn Up The Heat In Phoenix
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE *** 09-05-01

Bonus IDRC Sport Compact Invasion Adds Dimension To Truckin’ Nationals

When: Saturday and Sunday, October 13th & 14th
Where: Firebird Raceway, Phoenix, Arizona
What: IDRC Sport Compact Invasion

Projected Turnout: 250 race / 200 show / 25,000 spectators

Compact car drag racing and the lifestyle that surrounds the sport is growing faster than ever. Over 15 million people in the United States alone have seen Hollywood’s spin on the lifestyle and culture of this youth market with the blockbuster $130 million dollar release of The Fast & The Furious. Our sport and passion is no longer grassroots, it’s now “mainstream”.

In the midst of a season that is rewriting performance and attendance records, the IDRC is proud to announce a bonus event that will be produced at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona. This brings the total number of IDRC events in the 2001 season to 15. For those keeping score, that’s one more than the combined number of events for the IDRC’s two closest competitors.

According to National Director Michael Ferrara, “It’s our goal to continue to be the world’s leading sport compact event producer for 2002 and beyond. In addition to increasing the number of national events for the 2002 season to 18, we’ll also be moving some events to larger venues to accommodate the increased crowds. This bonus event at Firebird is just a sneak preview of the two major championship events that we will hold at Firebird in the 2002 season. We are looking forward to a successful and beneficial lifetime relationship with Firebird Raceway and the racers, fans, media and industry of Phoenix.”

“Firebird International Raceway is one of the fastest tracks in the country and the facility is second to none. For Southern California racers and fans now there’s a better and closer alternative to the Northern California tracks. Firebird International Raceway is just a 5-hour drive from most of Southern California. We believe that Firebird will quickly become a favorite stop in our series since it will allow the racers an opportunity to set personal and world records,” says Operations Director Wayne Kiang.

In its “By the Racers, For the Racers” focus, the IDRC will be bringing the racers and sport compact enthusiasts of Phoenix a great opportunity to sample the IDRC event experience. This IDRC experience will introduce the crowd to the heads-up championship-caliber (this bonus event not part of the points championship for 2001) racing that the IDRC has become famous for with the Nitto Tires Quick Class and the APC Street Class. The racing will be joined by the Meguiar’s Movement One People’s Choice car show, part’s raffles and more. Manufacturer’s in attendance will get the best of both worlds as this bonus event will be held concurrently with the GR8ride.com Truckin’ Nationals that traditionally draws over 20,000 enthusiasts.
