The racers of the IDRC would like to congratulate Lisa Kubo on her 2001
Pro-4 NIRA Championship along with Jojo Callos, the 2001 Hot Rod
Champion of
the NHRA import series. The IDRC officially invites these former Nitto
Tires/Turbo Magazine Quick class stars to join in competition against
the
new Giants in the Quick class for the remainder of the 2001 IDRC
Championship season.
Now, the time has come for the three top Nitto Tires/Turbo Magazine
Quick
cars in the world to meet at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado to gain
ground
in the biggest, most competitive and challenging racing championship in
the
world. It's the major leagues, and the coveted IDRC Quick Class
championship
is on the line with none of the racers holding back. Brent Rau and the
Thermal R&D/OSOFAST Eclipse wowed the Colorado crowd earlier this year,
running 9.50s and becoming the quickest import ever a mile high in the
sky.
Will this all-wheel-drive Diamond Star shut down the field? Gary
Gardella
doesn't think so. Enjoying a phenomenal rookie season, Gardella and his
Ecko
Unlimited/DC Sports Civic has quickly become one of the most consistent
low-9-second Hondas in the world. A win at this event could make all of
the
difference in the championship. Looking to become the first sport
compact to
win an import championship title, the Phatridz Neon has other ideas on
who
will take home this win. Driver Mike Crawford is looking to jump into
the
lead and become the first Quick car into the 8s. The locals of Team PFI
will
be trying use their home court advantage for a victory.
If the IDRC's record-setting Quick cars weren't enough to get your
heart
racing, then the APC Street Class Cars will definitely quicken your
pulse.
2000 IDRC Champion Ari Yallon will be bringing out his RX-7 and looking
to
take over the lead from the all-wheel-drive of John Shepherd. Ari faced
no
real opposition in his way to capturing the 2001 NHRA Import
championship,
but the IDRC series has brought off tough competition and currently Ari
is
only in second place.
In addition to the world's best championship compact-car drag racing,
the
crowd will also participate in the Meguiar's Movement One car show. The
largest car show of its kind, this show is unique as the crowd chooses
the
winners. A Miss Import contest along with a packed manufacturer's
midway
will ensure that everyone has a great time at this event. Turbo &
High-Tech,
Import Tuner and Sport Compact Car magazines will all be in attendance.
The
weather looks to be extremely cooperative as forecasts call for a sunny
day
with highs in the high60s to low 70s.
A portion of every ticket sold at the event will be donated to the
American
Red Cross to aid those affected by the September 11th tragedy.
