No
less than 24 of the top IDRC Outlaw cars attempted to qualify in the
ultra-competitive Apex Integration eight-car field. When the qualifying
smoke settled Carlos Montano and his Pepe Loco Datsun had captured the
number one spot. The surprise absence from the qualified field was
National, Western and Central Division point’s leader Ron Lummus as a
broken shifter plagued his qualifying efforts.
In
the Pro Class, David Buschur worked hard in attempts to become the first
4G63 into the 7s. In the process, David defeated Craig Paisley (V8 Nitrous
Tacoma) and Dennis Marquis (3-rotor Turbo RX-7) to take home the event
class win. This accomplishment vaulted David past Adam Saruwatari in the
National Pro Class point’s championship and also established him as the
man to beat in the Eastern Division championship.
In
the Quick Class, Jennifer Williams, in her InLine Pro civic, established
herself as the new “Queen of the Quick” as she captured the number-one
qualifying position. Current National, Western and Central Division
point’s leader, Saverio Leone and his AC Autotechnic Civic, qualified in
the number two spot. In the finals, the pair met. Jen managed a
significant holeshot advantage and never looked back as she crossed the
line almost a second-and-a-half before Saverio.
In
the BFGoodrich Tires Street Class, 2001 IDRC Street Class Champion John
Shepherd set a new personal best elapsed time record as he demonstrated
his Talon’s consistency with 9.81, 9.82, 9.83 and 9.84 performances.
Qualified in the number one spot, John faced off against veteran Vinny
Ten. In what would become one of the most exciting and closest races in
this class’s history, John stunned Vinny off the line with a .613 to a
.810 reaction time. Through the first three gears, Shepherd was ahead of
Vinny by about three car lengths. When John lost fourth, that’s when the
race really became interesting. At the finish, John momentum carried him
to the line first by just one hundredth of a second.
The
beasts from the East met the best from the West in the All-Motor class. In
this conflict, the West proved by far to be the best as Erick Aguilar and
his Honda Civic massacred the field. In the end, the InLine Pro Civic of
Jeremy Allen would be Eric’s final victim in the final round.
The
Meguiar’s Movement One Car Show set a venue record with 138 show cars in
attendance. Extreme Imports, X-Rated Imports, Team Hayashi, Street Dreamz,
HiTek, Extreme Alliance, Team CCI and Forbidden Dreamz all had winning
vehicles.
In
the Pastreetracing.org SR-1 Team Drag Challenge presented by Super Street
magazine, Alpha Racing defeated DMK Racing. |
