IDRC Import And Sport Compact Challenge
IDRC’s
Biggest One Day Event Of The Season
Over
700 racers competed in the 2002 IDRC Import and Sport Compact Challenge
this past weekend. Colorado import fans flooded the gates at Bandimere
Speedway to catch the fast-paced action.
In
the Quick Class, Joel Tanzman was the dominator of the event. His Toyota
Supra blasted him to the number one qualifying spot with a 9.64 second
pass. But he wasn’t the only racer to hit the 9s. Myles Bautista piloted
his Acura Integra in a 9.96 performance to land the second qualifying
place. But Tanzman held onto his lead in the finals by making another 9
second pass. Locals Brent Leivestad and JJ Olsen from Team PFI both
qualified for the Quick 8, but failed to make it into the semi-finals due
to mechanical errors.
In
the BFGoodrich Tires Street Class, RX-7s ran the show. The competition was
fierce as 16 cars battled it out for the eight car field. Ari Yallon from
RX7.COM made his travels from Texas worthwhile by taking first place in
the Street 8 with his 10.76 second pass. Fellow teammate and points leader
Steven Kan experienced difficulties and didn’t make it into the finals.
Another RX7.COM teammate, Dan Schechter, faced Yallon in the finals but
couldn’t compete with Ari’s 10 second passes.
