IDRC
TRI-STATE NATIONALS BRINGS OUT THE BEST

All-Motor Class
With
the current IDRC All-Motor point’s leader Erick Aguilar not making the
trek to Atco, NJ, Team Alpha took advantage of the absence. Team Alpha
qualified all four of their cars in the eight car field. Jeremy Allen, the
Eastern division point’s leader, also made the final cut. The number one
qualifier was the 1962 VW Beetle of Daniel Rodriguez. Looking to extend
his lead, Jeremy’s 1995 Honda Civic performed consistently, but was
eliminated in the semi-finals due to a red-light start. Facing Rodriguez
in the all VW final, Nate Romero (Team Alpha) recorded the first ever
water-cooled VW win in IDRC All-Motor Championship competition.
BFGoodrich
Tires Street Class
The
BFGoodrich Tires Street class, which was once dominated by all-wheel-drive
Diamond Stars and RX-7s is now starting to give way to the heavier, higher
horsepower six-cylinder Supras. Paul Efantis’ 1995 Toyota Supra set an
unofficial new elapsed time record of 9.142 during qualifying and looked
like the man to beat. However, he did not get the chance to back the time
up due to a faulty nitrous system. Without the nitrous oxide functioning,
the Toyota Supra bogged off the starting line and lost in first round
action. In the end, Ari Yallon and Ray Wilson paired 1993 Mazda RX-7s
against each other. Ari escaped with the win and the national point’s
lead. With this win, Ari officially moved ahead of John Shephard in the
National points by 55 points.
Turbo
Magazine Quick Class
InLine
Pro is proving to the world that they can build a quality racecar. During
qualifying, only faulty transmissions kept the InLine Pro Civic from total
domination. With new driver Matthew Keller behind the wheel of their 2000
Honda Civic the field appeared to be ripe for the picking. Former Inline
Pro Civic driver, Jennifer Williams, debuted her new racecar, a black1992
Acura Integra appropriately named the Project Midnight Integra. Jen
Williams managed a third place qualifier spot and a semi-final finish with
Project Midnight Integra even with a stock b16a motor as its power plant.
The class win goes to Saverio Leone as he fixed his boost problems from
the previous event and found the 9.40s again. The win put Sav and his AC
Autotechnic Civic that much closer to wrapping up the Quick class
championship.
APEX
Integration Outlaw 16 Class
The
first ever Apex Integration Outlaw 16 had an incredible showing with close
racing and several 8-second passes. Outlaw cars that qualified in the 16
car field included Carlos Montano, El Terror, James Sartwell, current
points leader Ron Lummus and Brent Rau, just to name a few. 2001 Quick
class champion, Brent Rau, made his 2002 Outlaw debut with a 1999
Mitsubishi Eclipse posting a 8.64 time while recording a semi-final
finish. Not too shabby considering it was the first time the racecar has
ever been on the 1320. As Ron Lummus battles his way with carburetor
problems again, Carlos Montano took advantage and piloted his way to the
winner’s circle. After the event, a frustrated Ron Lummus went on the
record and vowed that he will return with fuel injected, quicker and more
consistent, so don’t count him out just yet.
DRAG
Sport Magazine Pro Class
With
the Bullish racing team making a last minute appearance cancellation due
to family problems, the fans were still treated to a hell of a show as the
Buschur racing Eagle Talon set a new personal best elapsed time of 7.894
in the Drag Sport Magazine Pro class. With the Pro class championship
within his clasp, David Buschur may look to be experimenting with a
stand-alone engine management system and also possibly a methanol setup to
better improve his times and chances to wrap up the Pro Class championship.
